April is here and weather is warming up (after a relatively mild winter). I just returned from SISO CEO Summit and enjoyed many insightful sessions. One that I liked particularly was “Winning exhibition strategies to 2015 and beyond” from Denzil Rankine of AMR International. Denzil shared B2B media spend in US, including projections for 2015. According to Denzil, “[in mature markets] As shows lose share of spend to online, an increased digital presence will provide organisers with a stronger positioning in the marketing budget”.

We have also rolled out attendee acquisition widget to several clients. You can watch video at a2zinc.net/aaw (1:50 min). Initial results of the widget has been very impressive, with high exhibitor adoption rate. Check out these websites for some of the IFT 2012 exhibitors promoting the show using the widget: Log 5, Farbest and Safefood 360.

a2z's Quarterly Exposition Industry Analysis is hot off the presses. This analysis reports data through Q1 of calendar year 2012. This information reflects overall industry performance, a breakdown of vertical market performance and sales pacing of the last two quarters months, and looking forward the next two. The analysis is based on aggregate event data from the hundreds of shows managed on our platform, paired in cooperation with Center for Exhibition Industry Research (CEIR) vertical classifications.

  • Q1 levels just about at 2009 levels, and 1% ahead of 2010 Q1, which was an excellent quarter.
  • Industry Sectors are all close to, or slightly ahead of Q1 2009 levels. Heavy machinery is an exception at 150% of 2009 levels and 23% ahead of last year. Transportation is 127% of 2009 levels, and 26% ahead of last year.
  • Industry Pacing trends show past events' NSF sold for the last 6 months trended ahead over last year by just over 6%. The next six months is flat or matching 2011 levels.
